Our Writing Workshop has been an incredible experience so far, but has had its ups and downs. We are working to become creative, independent writers, and sometimes that gets tricky! Noah and I have been finding different strategies for figuring out how to spell tricky words. As writers, we are discovering that if we don't know how to spell a word, we need to simply try our very best, and just keep on writing!
Noah was beginning to write a story about his weekend adventures--a trip to the apple orchard with his family. He wanted to write how they went apple picking. He asked how to spell pick, but then got a very determined look on his face and said “It is in the dinosaur book!” He then recalled a moment from when we read How do Dinosaurs go to School” by Mark Teague—our very first read aloud of the year several weeks ago. “Does he tease all the girls? Does he pick on the boys?” I sure hadn't thought of that strategy, but what a cool way to connect to a story we've read!
