Country Teachin'

Yes--I do hope you read the title with a fierce southern drawl.

Yesterday a parent from the Montessori classroom brought in baby opossums to show the class. Naturally. Where else in the world (except the middle of nowhere NE Georgia) would roadkill (too cruel?) come in for 'show and tell'? The crew was entirely shocked when I said we could not, in fact, keep one as a class pet. They think me heartless, of course. "But look how cute, Miss Rachel!!"(Woof)

I suppose that when you teach in the country, opossums visit the classroom. And birds, too. We had a bird fly around the classroom for 15 minutes during the visit from the tiny rodents. All I could think was...is this for real? Is this what my teaching life looks like?

Yes.

And it's glorious.
