We have been immersed in reptile research for the past few weeks. Madison and Noah have been very interested in the categorizing of animals, and are often curious of an animal's given scientific name. In fact, Noah and I spent an entire science block last week researching the habitat of the american alligator after we learned that its scientific name is "alligator mississippiensis". "It must live in the mississippi river!" Brilliant :)
For her reptile project, Madison has decided to research the Komodo dragon. After being inspired by Doreen Cronin's Diary of a Worm (a hilarious book that characterizes a regular earth worm and chronicles his daily adventures), Madison has decided to write her own "Diary of a Komodo Dragon" in order to present the variety of facts that she has researched. She has been very eager to tell Noah about her project.
M: Noah.....Noah.
(No response. Furiously working to illustrate an alligator leaping out of the water to catch a bird)
M: Noah. Please stop picking your nose. Listen. My komodo dragon's name is Fred.
(Long pause. Noah looking off into space in deep contemplation.)
N: Is that his scientific name?
