Sargon and the Akkadian Vampire

Noah and I have been diving into a study of the Egyptians and the Mesopotamian empires. He is absolutely fascinated by the way people lived. He could read a book on Mummies for hours if I let him! I think he has a slightly cartoonized vision of what a mummy is, and I have been trying to reiterate that ancient Egyptian mummies are not actually monsters that come to life, but a special way that the Egyptian people honored and burried the dead.

The Emperor Sargon
or perhaps the Vampire Sargon
With this "good guy, bad guy" approach to ancient history, he takes a slightly different look at the way different emporers ruled their lands. We recently read about Sargon the Akkadian Emporer (slightly after the age of the Great Pyramids in Egypt, approx. 2300 B.C.). We were not able to cover much content, for a lengthy conversation ensued regarding the difference between an "empire" and a "vampire". As many times as I explained it, he was convinced that Sargon was actually a large villain in a cape that hunted people in order to grow his kingdom. Sargon was, in fact, a fierce dictator with probably inhumane war tactics, so I guess a vampire it is.
