Some Essay Inspiration

Although this isn't a classroom moment, I could not resist sharing it. I have been journeying right alongside Madison as we learn about the art of writing essays. What started as a narrative about ice skating with my Dad has transformed into an essay about his love for my family. I have treasured the moments spent tweaking and deleting and adding and fixing my words to uncover the thesis that really captures whe weight of what I want to say about my Dad (Let me remind you of Madison informing me that my first thesis "My Dad is really important to me" was too shallow!).

Sharing our classroom joys--particularly our discoveries as we become more brilliant writers--on this little blog has been a way to stay connected with my family and keep them up to date on the happenings of Little Way. I spoke with my Mom this evening about my writing and how I am loving writing about Dad (who was listening in the background).

I could envision the smile on her face as she said, "Matt--Rach has been writing about you in her blog! Isn't that sweet?"

Without much hesistation--and certainly with all the love in his heart--he responded, "What's a blog?"

Love you, Dad :)
