Mads and Chelsea prepared a lesson for the other students about God being the creator of all the things in our world. It was lovely to reflect on the beauty of creation around us, and on what our response should be as grateful stewards of God's creation. Mads read some pretty incredible writing from St. Augustine.
Question the beauty of the earth,
the beauty of the sea,
the beauty of the wide air around you,
the beauty of the sky;
question the order of the stars,
the sun whose splendor softens the gloom of night;
question the living creatures that move in the waters,
that roam upon the earth,
that fly through the air;
the spirit that lies hidden,
the matter that is manifest;
the visible things that are ruled,
the invisible things that rule them;
question all these.
They will answer you;
"Behold and see, we are beautiful."
Their beauty is their confession of God.
Who made these beautiful changing things,
if not the one who is beautiful and changeth not.
The beauty of these words invoked an in depth conversation about the nature of the things around us. It is remarkable how reflective (and slightly dramatic) children can become when striving to discover beauty. Things that made it onto our list of beautiful things that either God created, or God enabled people to create:
-the mountains
-the fall leaves
-white board markers
-clothing
-the planets
-forks and knives (a response with eyes full of wonder and awe :) )
