Noah chose to work with a book about inventors for reading workshop today. He was extra fascinated by the story of the invention of the rocket. We decided to see if there was a cool Brainpop video that could give us more information about rockets. What do you know...it was the featured video of the day!
As we watched the cooler-than-cool video, we heard about the force of gravity and how things fall right back to us when we throw them up in the air. A rocket has to have enough thrust power in the engine to defy the force of gravity and push through the earth's atmosphere. I tossed up a marker to show how gravity forces all objects to come back down to earth. Noah informed me that he could certainly throw the marker higher than I could. He launched the marker and it promptly hit the ceiling fan and landed on top of one of the blades. Without skipping a beat he pointed out the obvious:
"I guess gravity doesn't work in our classroom."
